Faith Statement

We all have important questions about our lives that must be answered: Why are we here? What is broken with our world? Can it be fixed? Where is the future headed? We came to realize that the world shows evidence of a Creator God who planned a perfect world. He also gave us the freedom to live as he instructed, or to disobey and do things that are wrong- which we all do (Romans 3:23).We saw that our sin was part of the world’s brokenness and caused us to be separated from God (James 1:14-15; Romans 6:23). This separation shows us that there is something missing in our lives that nothing else can fill. But God didn’t leave us in this brokenness. He sent Jesus Christ to take the punishment for our sin. If we accept this fact, believe Jesus is the way to a restored relationship with God, and change our lives to follow Him, He begins to fix our brokenness (John 3:16; Romans 5:6-8; Romans 10:9; John 1:12). Jesus described this decision as being “born again” ( John 3).This is a decision you can make now, where you are. If you accept this amazing gift from the Creator God, the next step is to let others who are following Christ know so you may learn how to grow in your newly-restored relationship with God. We would be excited for you to contact us.

History

North Shelby Family Health officially began in April of 1990, as a clinic sponsored by Shelby Medical Center.  However, the idea was conceived several years earlier when its founders were medical school classmates in Birmingham. The friendship began the week before we started our first classes. We were introduced by a mutual friend who thought we might be compatible.  This God-directed observation was accurate. During the two clinical years of medical school we not only studied together, but hung out and attended church together. It was during this time we talked about the possibility of practicing together in the future. However, for the last five years of training (2 clinical years of medical school plus 3 years of residency), we were in different cities- Dr. Moore in Huntsville, Dr. Blackburn in Tuscaloosa.  As our training neared completion, God's providence brought us back together.  We were both independently talking with Shelby Medical Center about their desire to start a practice in the Valleydale Road area. The administrator then mentioned to both of us that they were in discussions with another family doctor, and that we might want to work together.  This was an easy decision!  It has been humbling to see how God has used our skills and personalities, and our united faith, purpose and goals to serve our community. We saw our first patient on a spring day in 1990 before any staff had started work- Dr.Blackburn was the receptionist and Dr. Moore the physician (and also had to give the patient change from his own pocket)!
